Switching to a new shop platform

Are you switching from one shopping platform to another? Then read this article.

Written by Carola

This is how you stay with Reloadify when you switch to a different webshop, and here's what does and doesn't come along automatically.

How it works in short

Connect your new webshop as a second shop to your Reloadify account. The two shops are completely separate from each other. You set up the new shop at your own pace while the old one keeps running, and you only switch off the old one once everything is in place.

Duplicate your flows, triggers, newsletters, segments, landing pages, and pop-ups to the new shop yourself. Reloadify transfers your profiles as soon as your new webshop goes live, including all profile data and tags.

History from your old back end, such as orders and statistics, doesn't come along automatically. Further down you'll read exactly what that means.

Tip: Start before your new webshop goes live. That gives you time to get everything ready, so on launch day you only have to switch over. Also let us know when you're going live, so we can plan the transfer accordingly.

Who does what

This is on you, ideally before launch:

  • Duplicate your flows, triggers, newsletters, segments, landing pages, and pop-ups to the new shop

  • Update the links, text, and segments in the duplicated items

  • Recreate your discount codes and update the codes in your emails

  • Export your statistics from the old shop

  • Make sure your customers' opt-ins and unsubscribes carry over to your new back end

  • Have your order history transferred to your new back end, if you want to keep it

  • Pause your campaigns in the old shop at the moment you switch over

  • Uninstall Reloadify from your old back end once everything checks out

Let us know via chat when you're going live, and we'll get our part ready.

This is on Reloadify, after your new webshop goes live

  • Transferring your profiles to your new shop, with all profile data and tags

  • Transferring your CNAME records, so your sending reputation carries over

  • Shutting down your old shop once you tell us it can go

Step 1. Connect your new webshop

Add your new webshop in Reloadify and follow the installation process for your platform. You'll find the guides in our installation guides.

You now have two shops in your account: one on your old back end, one on your new one. Don't validate CNAME records for the new shop yet, that comes in step 5.

Step 2. Duplicate your existing items to your new shop

Click the three dots behind the item you want to transfer and choose duplicate. Select the webshop you're copying it to in the menu.

You duplicate:

  • Flows

  • Triggers

  • Newsletters

  • Segments

  • Landing pages

  • Pop-ups

Start with your segments. Your emails reference them, so if they're already in place, you'll have less to fix later.

Always check a duplicated item afterwards. The content isn't updated for you automatically.

  • Links and text. References to your old webshop stay unchanged. Update them to your new domain and your new URLs.

  • Segments. For every email that uses a segment, check that the right segment is selected in the new shop.

  • Audiences. Your new shop doesn't have data yet. An audience that filters on orders or product data won't match properly until your data comes in.

Watch out. Only turn on your flows and triggers in the new shop once your old shop is paused. That way you're not sending from two environments at once.

Step 3. Recreate your discount codes

Discount codes don't carry over with the switch. Create them in your new shop and use the new codes in your duplicated emails. Find out how in How do I use coupon codes in Reloadify?

Step 4. Export your statistics

Statistics from previously sent emails don't carry over to your new shop. Export them from your old shop now if you want to compare with last year later.

You can do this per newsletter, trigger, and flow. Choose which KPIs and which period to include. You'll get an email once the download is ready. Find out how in Exporting statistics from Reloadify.

Watch out. Do this before you uninstall your old shop. After that, you can no longer access it.

Step 5. Going live

Get in touch via chat as soon as your new webshop is live, and we'll plan the following.

  1. Transferring your profiles. We transfer your profiles from your old shop to your new one, including all profile data and tags. This only happens after launch, since that's when your customer base actually lands there.

  2. Transferring your CNAME records. We move your sending settings to your new shop, so you keep the sending reputation you've built up.

  3. Also switching to a different web host or domain provider? Add the CNAME records there yourself, since that's your DNS. We provide the records and validate them once they're in place.

Step 6. Close down your old shop

Check that everything looks right in your new shop. Send yourself a test email before you send your first real campaign. Then uninstall Reloadify from your old back end, or get in touch with support.

What doesn't come along?

Switching connects a completely new back end to Reloadify. That means some of your old data stays behind in the old shop.

  • Order history. Orders can't be moved from shop to shop. See the explanation below.

  • Email statistics. Opens, clicks, and send history start fresh in your new shop. Export them beforehand, see step 4.

  • Discount codes. Recreate these, see step 3.

  • Rules that rely on old email data. A condition like customer hasn't opened the last five emails needs a few weeks of data in your new shop before it works properly.

What does come along: your profiles with all profile data and tags, and your flows, triggers, newsletters, segments, landing pages, and pop-ups through duplication.

What about your order history?

Reloadify can't transfer order history between two shops. If you want to keep it, move the orders from your old back end to your new back end. If they come in cleanly there, they'll also reach us through the sync.

Watch out. Every shop platform stores data its own way. Moving your orders over unchanged can cause issues in Reloadify. Have your developer convert the data to match your new platform's format.

Frequently asked questions

Can I set up my new shop before my webshop goes live?
Yes, and we recommend it. The two shops are separate, so you can get your emails and flows ready without anything overlapping.

Can I transfer my profiles myself?
No, you don't need to. We handle this for you, so all profile data and tags are guaranteed to carry over.

Do I pay for two shops during that period?
Yes, as long as both shops are active, they both count. Let us know via chat when your old shop can go, and we'll stop it for you.

When can I close down my old shop?
Only once you've checked that your profiles, emails, and first send look right in the new shop. Uninstalling is permanent, so wait until you're sure.

Can't figure it out?

Get in touch via chat. Let us know when you're going live, and we'll plan the transfer of your profiles and your CNAME records accordingly, and walk through it with you.
