In this article, we provide step-by-step instructions on how to create a merchandise feed.

Want to influence the recommendations feed? You can. In that case you create a merchandise feed. With the merchandise feed it is possible to give priority to a certain product in a recommendation feed.

1. Create a new recommendation feed

To influence a particular recommendation feed, first create it.

2. Create a new merchandise feed

Go to “discovery.” And click on “new.” The following screen will now appear:

In this screen you set all the conditions for the merchandise feed.

Name: This is the name you give the feed. Your customers won't see this name. And is purely for your own overview.

Recommendations: In this drop down menu you choose a recommendation feed you want to influence.

Specific date: Would you like to enable the merchandise feed for a specific period? Then enable it here. When enabling, you will be given the option for a start date and end date.

What influence do you want to exercise: Choose here whether you want to pin, boost or downgrade a product.

In this case, it is about the products that are in the recommendation feed. With merchandise, it is not possible to show other products in the recommendation feed.

By way of example

Suppose you get as recommendations:

  1. Adidas sneakers

  2. Nike sneakers

  3. Adidas sneakers version 2

If you then “boost” Nike, the same list gets a different order:

  1. Nike sneakers

  2. Adidas sneakers

  3. Adidas sneakers version 2

So the 10 recommended products do remain the same. And for example, boosting Puma would now do nothing to the order in the list. The same goes for product pinning. In this case, you fix a product at position 1, which is already in the list. Degradation of a product means that the product moves further down the recommendation feed.

3. Filter the products

You have now chosen a recommendation feed + what you want to do with the products. Now it's time to indicate which products you want to lock, boost or degrade. You do this with the filter rules, at the bottom.

Click on “add filter.” A dropdown menu will now appear with all the filters. Think of a particular category or product name.

Now press “next.” Now you will see a summary of how your merchandise feed will look. Now activate the merchandise feed and you're all set.
